Call for applications: Camargo residencies in France
The Camargo Foundation, a residential centre offering programming in the humanities and arts, is accepting applications for its Core Programme in Cassis, France, in 2021 and 2022.
Since 1971, the foundation has offered residencies to individuals from different nationalities as part of its mission to support ground-breaking research, experimentation and interdisciplinary approaches. The residency period is between six to 11 weeks.
During the residency, participants partake in regular discussions to encourage interdisciplinary exchange while the foundation’s staff provide formal and informal links with the region and facilitate meetings with professionals whose areas of expertise are relevant to fellows’ work.
The application deadline is 1 October 2020.
Eligibility
The foundation accepts applications from any nationality.
Applicants can apply in the following categories:
Artists
Applicants should be the primary creators of a new work/project and should have achieved a track record of performance awards. The foundation is interested in artists who have a fully developed and mature artistic voice.
Applicants may include artists who are engaged in critical thought and research-oriented projects.
When applying, artists will have to choose from the following subcategories:
- Sound art.
- Composition.
- Performing arts.
- Choreography.
- Visual arts.
- Writing.
- Playwriting.
Scholars
Applicants should be scholars connected to the arts and humanities working on French and Francophone cultures, or cross-cultural studies that engage the cultures and influences of the Mediterranean region. To be eligible, the applicant should either be a PhD holder with a record of post-doctoral scholarship or a PhD candidate completing the final stages of research or writing their dissertation.
Thinkers
In this category, the foundation is interested in work attuned to the academic arena, the arts and society. Applicants should be accomplished professionals and practitioners, such as:
- Curators.
- Journalists.
- Critics.
- Urban planners.
- Independent scholars, etc.
Important dates
The dates for the 2021-22 Camargo Core Programme are:
- Fall 2021 – eight weeks from 8 September to 3 November.
- Spring 2022 – six weeks from 15 February to March 29, eight weeks from 15 February to April 12, or 11 weeks from 15 February to 3 May.

Remuneration
The Camargo Foundation will provide the 18 fellows with a weekly stipend of $250 inclusive of transportation to and from Cassis.
