Burna Boy is not coming to Afropunk SA
Top Nigerian artist Burna Boy will not perform at Afropunk Festival on Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 30 and 31 December.
The festival organisers said the ‘African Giant’ hitmaker would return to the country when the climate was right. This after Burna Boy criticised South Africans amid a spate of xenophobic attacks in the country earlier this year.
He also recently cancelled his performance at the Africans Unite Concert that was set to take place in Pretoria on 23 November. The concert was eventually cancelled in its entirety.
“Afropunk is still committed to providing music lovers and fans a safe space to express themselves while they enjoy incredible performances from the impressive line-up which includes Solange, Miguel, Nao, Masego, GoldLink, Sho Madjozi, Kwani Experience and many other artists this year," the Afropunk organisers said.
“We are grateful to South Africa, our community, and to the many wonderful artists who will be with us on the 30th and 31st of December, and to the friends and colleagues that have made Afropunk Joburg 2019 possible.
"This year's festival theme is We See You as part of our continued commitment to our global African diaspora community.”
