Shazam unveils feature spotlighting songs’ top moments
Shazam has announced a new feature aimed at enhancing music discovery by identifying the moments within tracks that generate the most listener interest.
The Popular Segments feature is available on both desktop and mobile versions of Shazam.com.
The tool, called Popular Segments, was rolled out on Shazam.com on 10 December.
According to Shazam, the feature highlights sections of songs that prompted the highest volume of Shazam activity over the previous week. It will be available for top-ranking tracks on the platform’s charts and will present users with an interactive graph showing the relative popularity of different song segments. By hovering over the graph, users will be able to view specific time markers and see which part of a track attracted the most engagement.
“Shazam has always been about connecting fans to music that moves them,” Apple Music’s Ole Obermann said. “With Popular Segments, we're taking that a step further, revealing exactly which moment in a song grabbed the listener’s attention, while giving artists and the industry that unprecedented insight.”
The new function follows a year of updates to Shazam.com, including the introduction of artist links, expanded biographies and a “Just Announced” concerts section, which aim to improve discoverability for musicians.
