Big Zulu appointed as brand ambassador for SA’s passenger rail network
The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has announced the appointment of hip hop artist Big Zulu as its official brand ambassador in a bid to reinforce public trust and promote rail travel across the nation.
Big Zulu.
Big Zulu, known for his storytelling and connection to everyday South Africans, will lend his profile to PRASA campaigns and commuter outreach efforts. PRASA spokesperson said the appointment reflects the agency’s attempt to engage more directly with passengers and reposition rail travel as an affordable, reliable and community-oriented transport choice.
In recent weeks, Big Zulu reportedly made surprise visits at several stations, sharing train journeys with commuters, acts that PRASA described as “moments of genuine connection.” According to the agency, the public response to these interactions suggested a natural alignment between the artist’s personal brand and the daily lives of railway users.
“Big Zulu captures the true essence of our commuters. He’s a personality with character and warmth,” the spokesperson said. “Seeing our commuters engage with him truly brought a radiant energy to our stations and we look forward to many more train rides with commuters chanting ‘Inkabi Ayizondi’.”
Big Zulu described train travel as a “shared heritage” and called for renewed appreciation of the rail network and solidarity among its users.
The collaboration is part of PRASA’s broader strategy to implement a more customer-centred approach, following past challenges with service delivery and public perception. By engaging a high-profile cultural figure, the agency aims to underscore its commitment to improving safety, accessibility and community ownership of public transport.
