Romeu Di Lurdis: a Biography of a “singauthor”

Carlos Manuel Tavares Lopes, known professionally as Romeu Di Lurdis, was born on 3rd September 1989, on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. Romeu di Lurdis has a degree in Cultural Heritage Management and Masters in Artistic Practices in Visual Arts (ongoing).
He started composing verses in an early age/or when he was very young at the request of his colleagues, fact that contributed to the emergence of his poetic side. In 2007, he gets his first guitar, and learns to play with the help of his great friend and eternal Master, Dy de Paula and that is how he started to musicalize innocently his emotions, with the support of his family and the Association of Young People Without Borders from his community.

In 2008, he recorded his first songs at a home studio, Phil Produções and he participated in the academic contest “Music Festival - Less Alcohol More Life” in representation of the Secondary School Abílio Duarte and won the competition. In 2009 participated in a casting for the television channel Tiver, having been much applauded/having won a considerable audience.

In 2011, he participated in the Voz da Diáspora Cabo-Verdiana, “Voice of the Cape Verdiana Diaspora " in Portugal, returning to Cape Verde in 2012 to participate in the musical contest Talento-Strela which made him better known both in the country and in the Diaspora.

In 2013 he participated in the album of the Gaita Ferro (Kuda Mundu) where he interpreted his theme (Amargura - “Bitterness”); he also “lent” his musical themes to be recorded, namely (Dja n Rastora) played by Sara on the album Festa Fora, of the Ferro Gaita (2014) and Fera na Sukupira, played by Ceuzany, on the album (Ilha de Melodia/Island of Melody) 2016. With the theme Dina, he featured in the album of Varela Monteiro Bodinho (Nha Salvação, 2015). He has performed several concerts in Cape Verde, Senegal, Holland, Brazil, Switzerland, Portugal, among other countries. In 2016 made the opening of the Kriol Jazz Festival, also in April 2018 did a show case at the Atlantic Music Expo, presenting as always original themes, accompanied by his band.
Romeu Di Lurdis defines himself as a creative soul, poet, writer, "singauthor", instrumentalist, plastic artist, a sociocultural activist who sees music as a special way of living, loving and telling stories of the Island People.
