The Riff Band is a prominent jazz and swing ensemble based in Cairo, Egypt, known for its high-energy performances of nostalgic 1940s and 1950s hits. Founded in 2002 by vocalist Ahmed Harfoush and Bulgarian trumpet player Dimitar "Mitko" Dimitrov, the group has become a staple of the Egyptian jazz scene through regular appearances at venues like Cairo Jazz Club and El Sawy Culturewheel.

Performance Style: They are famous for themed nights and costume-based shows that recreate a "big band" or cabaret atmosphere.

Repertoire: Their setlists include tributes to legends like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and George Gershwin, alongside unique jazz arrangements of old Egyptian and Latin hits.

Signature Work: A notable recording is their 2007 version of "Tea for Two," and they are well-known for their Egyptian lyric adaptation of the classic "Something Stupid". 

Band Members

The band typically consists of seven to eight members, including an international brass section: 

  • Ahmed Harfoush: Band leader and director; male vocals.
  • Amr Yehia: Male vocals.
  • Samir George: Bass guitar.
  • Mitko Dimitrov: Trumpet.
  • Ashraf Rezk: Piano.
  • Amr Khairy: Drums.
  • Michael Louis: Trombone.
  • Noha Fekry: Female vocalist (member from 2008–2016). 

Major Performances

  • Cairo Jazz Festival: They have been regular participants, including a notable performance in 2011.
  • Anniversary Concerts: The band celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2012 and 20th anniversary in 2022 with large-scale performances.
  • International Reach: Beyond Egypt, the band has performed at gala events and festivals across the Middle East, including cities like Dubai and Doha
