Nile Dawta
Bio
Nile Dawta, born Juliet Onyach, is a force in East Africa’s cultural and musical landscape. A singer-songwriter, producer, DJ, gender art-ivist, and cultural curator using art to spark revolution. Raised in Nairobi’s Shauri Moyo during the Saba Saba uprisings, her life has always danced between resistance and rhythm. From early school-stage wins to global recognition, including awards from the United Nations and Brazil’s Young Talent Africa awards, Nile Dawta fuses Afro-Reggae, spoken word, and ancestral sounds to amplify the voices of African women and marginalized communities.
As the founder of Project Black Woman, co-founder of Arusha Dub-Club and Wadada Afrika, she channels her art into advocacy, raising awareness, distributing dignity kits to incarcerated women, and hosting artivist showcases. With over 300K Spotify streams and growing global reach, she is currently pursuing a Master’s in Women, Leadership & Governance in Africa at the University of Nairobi. Her mission? To sing for change, fight with sound, and curate a freer future led by the voices of African women.
