Mpho Skeef, professionally known as MPHO (and sometimes referred to as "The GVN"), is a dynamic British-South African singer-songwriter renowned for her eclectic, boundary-pushing sound that fuses Pop, Electro, and Soul. Born in South Africa, Mpho moved to the UK at a young age, where she honed her craft at the prestigious BRIT School in London, even serving as an early mentor to Adele.
Daughter of legendary South African musician Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse, Mpho inherited a rich musical lineage. Her career took off in the mid-2000s, initially as a highly sought-after session vocalist for acts like Ms Dynamite and Natasha Bedingfield.
MPHO quickly stepped into the spotlight as a solo artist, gaining critical acclaim for her unique style, which she describes as -"Brixton Pop Maverick."- She released her debut single -"Box N' Locks"- and the celebrated album Pop Art, earning recognition for her complex lyrics and genre-defying production, influenced by artists ranging from Kate Bush to Prince. MPHO’s artistry is defined by her refusal to be pigeonholed, making her a truly original voice in contemporary music.
