Lebo Mothibe, born Lebogang Mothibe, is a South African rapper, actor, and entrepreneur best known by his stage name Shugasmakx. He is a co-founder and prominent member of the pioneering hip-hop collective Skwatta Kamp, widely regarded as one of the most influential groups in the history of South African hip-hop.
Music Career & Skwatta Kamp
Shugasmakx co-founded Skwatta Kamp in 1996 alongside his friend and long-time business partner Siyabonga Metane (Slikour). The seven-member group—Infa, Nish, Shugasmakx, Flabba, Nemza, Slikour, and Bozza—rose to national prominence for their authentic storytelling, sharp lyricism, and cultural impact. Their acclaimed albums, including Mkhukhu Funkshen and Washumkhukhu, cemented Skwatta Kamp’s status as a defining force in the local hip-hop movement.
Acting
Beyond music, Shugasmakx has maintained an active presence in film and television. He made his first television appearance at the age of nine and continued acting throughout the 1990s in various advertisements and programs. He remains involved in the screen industry, taking on occasional cameo roles.

A seasoned entrepreneur, Shugasmakx is the director of Buttabing Entertainment, which initially managed Skwatta Kamp and Slikour and has since evolved into a multifaceted record company and entertainment brand producing music and live events.
He is also the Chief Executive Officer of MECA Agency (Marketing & Entertainment Communication Agency). Under his leadership, MECA delivers end-to-end creative solutions, including creative strategy and rollout, video production, audio and music production, content creation, event activations, branded merchandising, and television and film production. The agency has built an impressive portfolio, collaborating with leading brands and institutions such as African National Congress, Red Bull, Distell, SABC, and M-Net.
