The Green Manalishi
Bio
The Green Manalishi is a psychedelic rock band from Ethiopia. it was formed as an imaginary band between Aman Kahsay and Blen Girmay when they met through mutual friends in June 2014. Both couldn't play instruments at the time, but Aman taught himself how to play the guitar by listening and practicing to Brian Jonestown Massacre. To this date he is the only permanent member of the group. The band came to realty when their first single 'Keber' was released in 2017. Since then, they have recorded their first EP entitled "Critically Acclaimed", which saw them collaborate with the Uruguayan band Las Cobras. Las Cobras played synth on one of the tracks and mixed and mastered the EP. The Green Manalishi's primary influences are Brian Jonestown massacre, Black Market Karma, The Warlocks, Spacemen 3, Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Sixto Rodriguez. Their music can be defined as slow tempo melancholy with very short lyrics written in both native Amharic and English language, questioning the status quo of social values.
