Bio
Naledi Holtman, also known by her stage name Gonubie (aka dj raresoftware) is a South African musician born and based in Cape Town. She is a classically trained flautist and holds degrees in Fine Art and Urban Design, which heavily influence her exploration of how sound transforms physical space. She first gained recognition in the South African underground scene under the moniker raresoftware, performing house and techno sets at major festivals and clubs like Search Festival and Modular. Alongside her classical training as a musician and flautist, Her career as Gonubie officially launched with the announcement of her debut album, Signals at Both Ears, in August 2023 it was released under the UK label Metron Records. The project was born as a creative "break" from her DJ work, allowing her to explore more private, ambient sounds influenced by her background as a classically trained flautist. She specialises in ambient, fourth-world, and experimental electronic music. Her work is often described as serene, rhythmic, and "bucolic," featuring melodic chimes and looping synths.
