Bio
Evans 'Pfumela' Mapfumo is a singer songwriter and a guitarist. His music entails African cantered themes echoed by his soothing voice which is always accompanied by his artful guitar work. Evans’ music is enriched with messages inspired by real events which affect the region such as war, incurable diseases poverty, child abuse, and thereby encouraging peace, love, and other moral issues which qualifies the music to be uniquely described as a social commentary genre.
Evans Mapfumo's music may be liberally described as a fusion of Zimbabwe’s folk traditional rhythms played on Marimba and Mbira accompanied by an Acoustic guitar and other western music instruments. The band has a vibrant stage presence when performing and the music has a unique African sound with a soulful fusion which reveals the Zimbabwean cultural identities and cultural diversity. In the month of August 2021, Evans has released a single track entitled 'Ndanga Ndakarasika'. He recently been invited to come and preform at Saut za Busara Festival in Zanzibar, Tanzania, in February 2022. Previously, Evans ‘Pfumela’ Mapfumo’s achievements have surpassed all expectations thus far, with invitation to perform at the most prestigious platforms such as, The 2010 World Cup Fan Festival in Cape Town (South Africa), The Cape Town Summer Market Festival 2012 (South Africa), 2013 Grahams Town National Arts Festival (South Africa), Monkey Valley Beach resort (2012) South Africa, Harare Beer Festival (2014) (Zimbabwe), Harare International Festival of the Arts (Zimbabwe) (HIFA, 2015). Evans Mapfumo had the priviledge to curtain raise for the late African Icon Oliver Mutukudzi at Zula Bar in Cape Town in 2013. Evans Mapfumo later returned home to study music and attained a Bachelor's Degree in Ethnomusicology at the Zimbabwe College of Music in 2016. Currently he is a lecturer at the Zimbabwe College of Music.
