Don’Zer
Bio
Don’Zer, born Bobeau Angouanda David Ezechiel on 6 February 1989, is a leading Gabonese hip-hop artist whose work has become central to the evolution of contemporary urban music in Gabon. Hailing from Libreville, Don’Zer is widely recognised for blending traditional African rhythms with modern hip-hop production while addressing social realities, street life, and youth empowerment. His music has positioned him as a defining voice within Gabon’s Ntcham movement, a locally rooted yet forward-looking hip-hop sound.
Raised in an environment shaped by the everyday experiences of urban Gabonese youth, Don’Zer developed a musical identity grounded in storytelling and social reflection. Rather than glorifying violence or hardship, his lyrics often aim to reframe street narratives, encouraging resilience, responsibility, and positive action. This approach has earned him the nickname “chef de la bordellerie”, a term that reflects leadership within street culture, as well as “père de la chose,” signalling his influence within the movement he represents.
Unlike many artists whose careers follow a purely artistic path, Don’Zer also pursued higher education, earning a degree in Accounting from the Arab University of Sciences in Tunis. This academic background has contributed to his disciplined approach to his career, balancing creativity with strategic thinking and long-term vision.
Don’Zer’s breakthrough came in 2017 with the release of “Goudronnier,” a track that resonated widely for its raw honesty and cultural specificity. The song marked a turning point, establishing him as a major figure in Gabonese hip-hop. He followed this success with a series of popular releases, including “YG,” “OVENGO,” and “BOO,” each reinforcing his reputation for sharp lyricism and innovative sound design. His music frequently incorporates rhythmic patterns and sonic textures drawn from African traditions, layered over contemporary beats to create a style that is both local and globally relevant.
As a key figure in the Ntcham scene, Don’Zer has collaborated with artists such as L’Oiseau Rare, contributing to a growing network of musicians reshaping Gabon’s musical identity. His influence extends beyond entertainment; he is widely regarded as a mentor-like figure whose work speaks directly to young people navigating social and economic challenges.
Don’Zer’s artistic mission is rooted in transformation. Through music, he seeks to offer an alternative vision of street culture — one grounded in dignity, ambition, and collective progress. Today, he stands as a vanguard of a new generation of Gabonese hip-hop artists, using sound as both cultural expression and social commentary.
