Criss MJ — UK-based singer & songwriter. Working with artists across TZ & Nigeria. Born in France, raised in DRC, everyone know him as Criss Tz, creating since 2001.

Criss Mj’s musical story began long before he ever stepped into a studio. Growing up, he was deeply inspired by Ferre Gola and other legendary Congolese artists from the DRC. While other kids were outside, Criss spent most of his days immersed in classic Congolese sounds from the early 2000s and beyond, absorbing melodies, rhythms, and vocal textures that would later shape his own artistry.

Quiet and observant throughout his school years, Criss was known in college for his ability to create unique melodies in multiple languages. Music came naturally to him—an instinct more than a skill. Before completing his degree in Computer Science, he studied music at The Manchester College, reaching Level 2 before pausing his formal training in 2019.

Life took a new turn when Criss began spending time in Tanzania. He learned Swahili fluently and started collaborating with several Tanzanian artists, expanding his cultural and musical identity. Today, he travels frequently to Kenya, building connections and exploring East Africa’s vibrant music scene.

Criss once had a large catalogue of songs online, but he made the bold decision to take everything down and reinvent himself. He now emerges with a fresh identity as a Kompa singer, blending his Congolese roots, East African influences, and multilingual creativity. As time goes on, he plans to explore different themes and genres, always evolving, always experimenting.

Talented, disciplined, and quietly driven, Criss spends countless hours in his home studio—his sanctuary—crafting new sounds and shaping the next chapter of his musical journey.
