Bio

BusiGold is a seasoned South African vocalist, songwriter, and performer whose career spans over two decades of excellence across live performance, studio recording, theatre, television, and international touring. Renowned for her vocal precision, musical depth, and versatility, BusiGold has built a respected reputation as both a lead artist and one of the country’s most trusted backing vocalists.
BusiGold’s musical journey began at a young age in the church, where she sang alongside her sisters and developed a strong foundation in harmony, discipline, and performance. She went on to formally study music at Central Johannesburg College (2004–2006), where her talent quickly distinguished her among her peers.
While studying, she competed on Jam Alley (SABC 1), winning first place, a milestone that affirmed her stage presence and musical excellence. She later participated in The Coca-Cola Popstars, reaching the solo round an experience that catalyzed widespread encouragement for her to pursue a solo career.
Between 2006 and 2009, BusiGold was a member of the all-female group Deeva, performing extensively at corporate and live events. This period sharpened her professionalism, adaptability, and experience in high-level performance environments.
BusiGold has worked with an exceptional roster of celebrated artists, producers, and composers, both locally and internationally. Her work as a backing vocalist includes collaborations with:
• Themba Mkhize
• Vusi Khumalo
• Wouter Kellerman (Grammy Award winner)
She has toured Europe and Africa, recorded a live DVD with Simphiwe Dana, and worked with Nhlanhla Nciza of Mafikizolo fame. Her songwriting credentials include co-writing a Global Warming song alongside iconic artists such as Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP), Angélique Kidjo, and other global voices.
BusiGold has an extensive background in theatre and musical productions, demonstrating her strength as both a vocalist and performer. Her theatre credits include:
• “Fat Girl Sings” (with Napo Mashiane)
• “Umoja”, touring Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Norway, and South Africa
• “The Flying Carpet” – Lead Singer, Market Theatre
She has also collaborated with acclaimed a cappella ensembles such as No-Limits Music Group on the Beyond Measure project and featured on the Emmanuel Music Group (EMG) album.
Her recording and television work includes collaborations with:
• Zwai Bala and the Bala Brothers on Mzansi Stars
• Nokukhanya’s album (with Themba Mkhize)
• Sibongile Khumalo (Soul on Turf), who also served as her mentor during Coca-Cola Popstars
• Rea Nhlabathi (Gallo Records)
She worked at Moya Productions with Simphiwe Dana, directed by Gregory Maqoma, and collaborated with Tlale Makhene and Prof. David Qaphela Nkosi on an Africa Day composition. She also had the honor of working with legendary bassist Herbie Tsoaeli on his albums At This Point in Time and Africa Time.
BusiGold has participated in the international HerStory Festival as both actor and singer and performed at Africa Day celebrations honoring Miriam Makeba, alongside former President Thabo Mbeki and the Thabo Mbeki Foundation in Guinea.
