Bobby van Jaarsveld
Bio
Van Jaarsveld began his professional singing career while still in high school, securing a recording opportunity and releasing his first solo album in his final year. He received early recognition in 2006, winning the Best Newcomer Award at the Huisgenoot Tempo Awards after earning nominations from the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees, Vonk magazine and Huisgenoot Tempo. As the category winner, he performed at the Skouspel Extravaganza at Sun City, a role he continued to fulfil until 2011.
In November 2006, Van Jaarsveld signed a recording contract with Theuns Jordaan Productions. His debut album, ’n Duisend Ure, was released shortly thereafter and achieved gold status. His second album, Net Vir Jou, was released in 2009 under Coleske Artists, featuring tracks written and composed entirely by Van Jaarsveld. The album reached platinum status within eight weeks and has since been certified double platinum, with sales exceeding 83,000 units. Notable songs from the album include Spieëltjie and Net Vir Jou.
In January 2010, he was named Viewers’ Favourite Artist for 2009 on DKNT, a local music programme broadcast on DStv. That same year, Spieëltjie won Best Afrikaans Song at both the Huisgenoot Tempo and Vonk Awards. Van Jaarsveld went on to release two further albums: Wat Geld Nie Kan Koop Nie in 2012 and Maak ’n Wens in 2014.
