Emerging South African artist Sifiye has released a new single, ‘Ngyacela’, featuring Nomfundo Yekani, alongside contributions from Robot Boii, Flash Cortez and Musiholiq.
The track, whose title translates to “I ask” or “I plead”, combines elements of Afro-pop and trap, and centres on themes of love, vulnerability and longing. It is led by the vocal performances of Sifiye and Yekani, supported by a multi-artist collaboration reflecting current trends in South African music.
Sifiye said the recording process highlighted the value of collaboration. “This song was really special to create because working with Nomfundo Yekani and the rest of the artists brought such different energies and perspectives into the studio. It reminded me how powerful collaboration is, and how music can come alive in ways you don’t expect when everyone brings their truth to the process,” he said.
Yekani, whose real name is Nomfundo Nkutha, has built a career spanning music and television. She previously appeared on programmes including Planet TV and Soccer 411, and was a finalist in the MTV Base VJ Search. Her recent work includes a collaboration with Moozlie.
Commenting on the release, Yekani said: “Working on ‘Ngyacela’ was such a beautiful experience because the song is so honest and emotionally driven. Collaborating with Sifiye and the team felt natural, and I think people are really going to connect with the sincerity in the music.”
Sifiye, 21, is from Katlehong and is among a group of younger artists gaining attention in the local industry. He described the track as focused on emotional connection. “This track is really about connection and feeling, and working with Nomfundo and the team just took it to another level. Everyone brought something real into the song, and I think people are going to feel that when they hear it,” he said.
‘Ngyacela’ is available on major streaming platforms.
