Blaq Diamond is a multi-award-winning South African Afro-pop duo from Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, consisting of Ndumiso Mdletshe known as Ndu Browns and Siphelele Dunywa, popularly known as Danya Devs. The pair met in 2010 during a school trip, where their shared passion for music laid the foundation for what would become one of South Africa’s most influential contemporary music acts. What began as a friendship quickly developed into a creative partnership rooted in storytelling, cultural pride, and authentic African sound.
Their music blends Afro-pop, Afro-soul, and traditional influences, often delivered in Zulu and Xhosa, creating a distinctive sound that resonates across diverse audiences. Blaq Diamond is known for their harmonious vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and ability to fuse modern production with rich African musical elements. Their breakthrough came with the release of the hit single “Ibhanoyi” in 2019, which became a national anthem and earned them widespread recognition, including the prestigious Record of the Year award at the South African Music Awards.
