JACK TEMBO

Jack Tembo mostly known as JACK BURNING (born on 26 of march 1969 in Chipata) is a Zambian singer, song writer and Guitarist based in the capital city of Zambia Lusaka. In the late 80's, jack and three others namely Alan (lead guitarist) & Micheal Kumwenda (lead vocalist) formed a band called THE BURNING YOUTH BAND. the band does the fusion of Zambian traditional music and reggae. Others members where Sam zulu(drums), Danny Mwenda (Rhythm guitarist) and Fred Kazmete (keyboard player). Jack was the bass player in the band.

In the late 90's, the band started having big shows and they where booked to tour the country with other big African bands that are very popular. these are some of the band that BURNING YOUTH shared the stage with. MANU DIBANGO, KOFFI OLOMIDE, MADILU SYSTEM, SEPO JOHNSON, SENZO, LUCY DUBE, MDILI ABLE, PAPA WEMBA, PRINCE ONYANGO, SALIF KEITA, OLIVER MUTUKUDZI, DEZY MUKANGI, AWILO LONGOMBA, TSHALA MWANA & GENERAL DEFAO.

In 1993, the the Band toured the United Kingdom on the 50th anniversary of OXFARM Charitable Organisation which was themed "Working for a fairer World". some of the countries that they toured to perform live music where; Manchester City Town Hall, Cambridge University, African Center in London,East and West Wales, Birmingham, Leeds and Liverpool. After coming back from there, the Band went ahead and toured central African countries these include Malawi, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. The band became the first band in Malawi to ever perform on stage with Dreadlocks in Kamuzu banda's regime.

in 2013 the BURNING YOUTH BAND was awarded the MOST CONSISTENT BAND award and the Born'n'Bread award. This award was to appreciate the band for still being there through all this time.

in 2017 the BURNING YOUTH BAND won the Battle of the Bands after that, the band went to also Headline the biggest show in Zambia, where they performed the last act at the event.

In 2019,l the BURNING YOUTH BAND was awarded the MOST OUT STANDING BAND IN ZAMBIA at the local award called THE NGOMA AWARDS. this award showed the how the band is working towards making great music to THE WORLD. like they say their motto is "ONCE WATCHED, NEVER FORGOTTEN".
