TAFMELO D is a multifaceted artist whose passion for music emerged at an early age. His nickname, “Taf,” comes from his given name, Moustapha, a term of endearment given by childhood friends. “MELO D” reflects his deep connection to music.

Born on February 15, 1989, TAFMELO D began his musical journey in 2009 when he joined the rap group Renou Africa. After the group disbanded in 2010, he became part of the hip-hop collective DMT Family, where he performed until 2011. Following the breakup of this second group, he pursued formal training at the École Nationale des Arts et Métiers de la Culture (ENAMC) from 2012 to 2013, where he learned to play the guitar.

In 2015, he embarked on a solo career with the release of his debut single, NIEUWATI NGA. A major breakthrough came in 2017 with his second single, JIGUEEN, which resonated with a wide audience and gained significant success beyond Senegalese borders.

In 2019, he released his third single, NOY FECCE, solidifying his status as a recognized artist. Like many musicians, TAFMELO D faced a slowdown in his career due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this period of reflection allowed him to return with a renewed artistic vision, culminating in a new album project. The first glimpse of this work is his latest single, NAY NEKH, released on February 7, 2025, and now available on all streaming platforms.

TAFMELO D’s musical universe blends Afrobeat and Afropop, merging traditional African rhythms with modern influences, particularly drawing from Mandingue music. His sound reflects an openness to various styles and a creative fusion of cultures.

His inspiration comes from both the timeless melodies of Mandingue music and his personal life journey, which is filled with stories of resilience, passion, and perseverance. His goal is clear: to share his emotions and ideas with the public while adding a unique touch to his compositions. His music is original, accessible, and unifying, carrying messages with subtlety and depth, ensuring they resonate without offense.
