Roots rock reggae singer/ songwriter Soul Rebel hails from the town of Linstead, St. Catherine in Jamaica. Born Julan Samuels, Soul Rebel’s childhood was filled with musical influences. John “Screw” Samuels, her father who played as a “Studio One” drummer on several songs from “The Soul Defenders” catalog and other bands under the regime of the legendary reggae producer Coxsone Dodd. “Soul Defenders” guitar player Ronald “Privy” Clarke brought her dad to “ Sir Coxone” as a very young man well before Soul Rebels birth and “Iyah Privy” as she calls him, lived long enough to later mentor Soul Rebel herself.
