Pepsin Profile
Pepsin, born Teboho Montse, emerges as a luminary in the realm of reggae and dancehall music. Hailing from Kimberley, the City of Diamonds in Northern Cape, Pepsin embodies the brilliance and multifaceted allure of his birthplace. His musical journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, marked by accolades, notable collaborations, and an unwavering dedication to his craft.
Nicknamed "Papi" during his formative years, Pepsin's evolution into his stage name symbolizes his ability to inspire and uplift. Like gravity's pull, the transition from "Papi" to "Pepsin" signifies his magnetic impact on the music industry and beyond. As South Africa's leading Original Raggamuffin, Pepsin is a multi-award-winning artist, celebrated for his authenticity and trailblazing contributions to the genre.
His single "Hamsini Mia," showcases his collaborative spirit, featuring Ghanaian Dancehall and Afropop sensation Mula Palmer, versatile Congolese vocalist and video director Sam Kam, and South Africa's musical heavyweight Sfs 5Star General. Building on this momentum, Pepsin has joined forces with hip hop queen Dezry Kay to release a new track, "YHOO!", from her highly anticipated album, further cementing his place in Africa's Reggae and Dancehall scene.
The pair are also celebrated for their earlier single "Madibuseng," while their latest collaboration "Yhoo" reflects on the complexities of relationships, particularly those driven by financial security and boastful attitudes.
In 2024, award-winning reggae and dancehall artist Pepsin released the highly anticipated short film “Reconciliation” (7 November 2024), a moving visual piece that captured his heartfelt apology for past flaws as a man, reaffirming his devotion to the love of his life.
