Mirriam Nkosi

Mirriam Nkosi also known as the Nonchalant songstress, is a singer, songwriter and sonic storyteller from Malawi. Combining sweet melodies, her natural captivating vocals and expressive lyrics she explores different aspects of life through her music.

Music has followed Mirriam all her life, In 2018 she wrote what would be her debut single on a random night in her University dorm which she performed at a local all- female talent show and the positive feedback she received inspired her to share her voice with the world.

In 2020, she won an online music cover competition hosted by Mr Eazi and George Kalukusha; winning a free studio session in which she recorded this debut single ‘Come back to me’. In December of 2020 she released her second single ‘Yang’ana Mwamba’ and finally went on to release her first body of work titled Scattered but a little put together’ in 2021, gaining popularity for its vulnerability,

She has since performed on different stages across Malawi, successfully performing at the Revitalise Feminist Festival organized by Pepeta Africa in 2022 and recently performing at the Zamrock Museum showcase in Zambia as part of the Modzi Arts Artist Residency. Mirriam is also passionate about working with young people in Malawi and has spearheaded several initiatives since 2016, she loves to merge these two passions by using her artistry as a means to capture and tell stories about issues that plague women in her community. She has partnered with organizations like Pepeta Africa and Wona collective to speak to these issues through a youtube series and a collaborative EP.

Mirriam is currently recording new music and hopes to bring her audience along for the journey, She is also exploring all the multi-disciplinary ways she can use her voice and creativity to directly speak to the socio-cultural landscape of her country Malawi and aims to share this with the world soon.
