Slinger

Born Vuyolwethu Qete on January 15, 1992, in Komani, Eastern Cape, South Africa, SLINGER discovered his musical calling amidst life's challenges. Influenced by the lyrical prowess of Eminem, the raw narratives of Zola, and the conscious messaging of Driemanskap, his path became illuminated when he witnessed his younger brother, Aphiwe, embrace music. This period, marked by new living arrangements with their grandmother, instilled in SLINGER a profound sense of responsibility and leadership, qualities deeply woven into the fabric of his music.

Though traditional schooling presented its own hurdles, SLINGER's true education unfolded in the streets and studios of Komani. By 2008, inspired by his brother and recognizing Hip-Hop as his destined medium, he began crafting rhymes, translating life's complexities into universal language. His breakthrough came in 2009 with "Herbex," a fearless Xhosa rap anthem that announced his presence and established his reputation in Komani as a voice with substance.

Recognition soon extended beyond his hometown, with Cape Town Spaza artists taking notice, validating his authentic approach. In 2025, SLINGER made the strategic move to Johannesburg, South Africa's Hip-Hop capital, a bold statement of readiness to introduce his unique fusion of Xhosa lyricism and commercial appeal to the national stage. His journey from "Gunslinger" to SLINGER symbolizes evolution, self-discovery, and the power of unwavering belief in one's vision, making him an artist whose story continues to unfold.
