Bio
Effervescence is a dynamic chamber music ensemble and production initiative emerging from the Rhodes University Department of Music and Musicology. The ensemble features flautists Boudina McConnachie, Sambesiwe Mavela, and Brendon Hoffmann, alongside pianist Garreth Robertson—each bringing a unique blend of artistry, experience, and creative vision.
The name Effervescence captures the group’s spirited performance style and the vibrant energy they bring to the stage. Their repertoire spans an engaging spectrum—from Baroque concertos to contemporary compositions, with a strong emphasis on new and unusal works as well as African and South African works—reflecting a commitment to both musical excellence and cultural relevance.
Motivated by a shared belief in the power of music to connect, heal, and inspire, Effervescence is dedicated to making high-quality classical music accessible to diverse audiences. Through performance and outreach, the ensemble demonstrates how sound can transcend genre, generation, and geography, fostering inclusive spaces for listening and dialogue.
