Dalisu Ndlazi - The Inevitable Calling

Bio

With his musical career beginning at the Siyakhula Community Development Centre in Umlazi KZN, Dalisu proves himself every time he gets on stage with his forever fresh and strong bass lines.

He is a young upcoming bassist and a tuba player whose playing is far beyond his age. In 2012 he was selected as the National Schools Big Band bassist at the Standard Bank Youth Jazz festival held in Grahamstown. He continued holding that position from the year 2015 to 2017. He has performed with great jazz artists such as Nduduzo Makhathini, Andile Yenana, Brian Thusi, Salim Washington who has featured him in his album 'Sankofa' and Sbusiso Mashiloane’s two albums 'Amanz’Olwandle' and 'Umkhuleko'.

In 2017, Dalisu obtained his National Diploma in Music from the University of KwaZulu Natal where he played for the UKZN Story Tellers that were under an exchange programme with Virginia Commonwealth University called “Jazz Bridge to Greater Understanding”.

In June 2019, Dalisu was chosen to attend a Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong Summer Camp in New Orleans. He had a priviledge to work with the jazz icons such as, Branford Marsalis and Terrence Blanchard.Some of his own remarkable performances are the “21stSuite” at The Jazzy Rainbow on the 9th of December 2016. This event was led by the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to foster love and support for live music. The other one is “The Inevitable Calling” at the Centre of Jazz and Popular Music, that occurred on the 13thof March 2019. For his concerts he features the most incredible musicians such as; Zoe The Seed (vocalist), Thabo Sikhakhane (trumpeter), Mthunzi Mvubu and Phumlani Mtiti (alto saxophonists), Salim Washington (flute, bassclarinet, and tenor saxophonist), Senzo Ngcobo (trombonist), Zibusiso Makhathini and Sanele Phakathi (pianists), Njabulo Shabalala (percussionist), and Riley Giandhari (drummer). He recently presented “A Four Way Conversation” on the 18thof August 2020, live on Facebook due to a covid-19 pandemic. He is now working on recording his first single called “A Kind Heart” and many more albums in future!
