Akeem Luis(Ximbitana)
Bio
Akeem Luis is a rising Mozambican multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer born in 11 August 2010 in Maputo. Rooted in jazz, African rhythms, and soulful expression, Akeem’s music reflects a maturity well beyond his years. He started his journey on stage at around age 9, performing percussion with his mother, Sheila Jesuíta, and soon picked up the instruments under the guidance of his father, Naldo Ngoka, and stepfather, saxophonist Muzila Malembe.
Deeply inspired by artists like Bokani Dyer, Domenic Landolf, Marcus Wyatt, and Feya Faku, Akeem fuses post-bop, African jazz, and modern improvisation into a sound that’s emotional, complex, and honest. He considers himself as a multi instrumentalist. His main instruments are bass and flute — and produces everything himself using only Logic Pro on a MacBook Pro.
His upcoming debut project, Umoya Abantu, explores themes of introspection, legacy, and rhythm. His standout compositions include Scrutiny, Saltwater Lullaby, Misery, and B3000 — a piece co-written with Muzila Malembe that blends bluesy grooves with a dyer ish harmonic language.
At just 15, Akeem is already shaping a voice that honors his roots while carving out space in the future of jazz.
