Rushab Nandha

Bio

Rushab Nandha is a graduate of the SAE Institute, Cape Town, with a degree in sound engineering and production. He began his professional career in his sophomore year co-producing, recording and mixing Eric Wainaina’s "Don't Bury Me," featuring John Nzenze, Blinky Bill and Kendi Nkonge. In June 2017, he co-produced and mixed the theme song for "NTV Wild Talk" - a series of wildlife documentaries produced by Wildlife Direct, Kenyan broadcaster, NTV, and the Kenyan Wildlife Service (KWS).

In May 2018, Rushab was enlisted as a co-composer on a musical theatre project titled "Pani Puri." Developed at the "Nairobi Musical Theatre Initiative," it tells the story of an interracial couple’s forbidden love. In a melting of Kenyan and Indian musical traditions, it fuses worlds that have historically shared food and language, but not companionship.

Between December 2018 and April 2019, he co-composed the score to Mugambi Nthiga’s directorial debut, "Lusala." The soundtrack reflects the pulse of the film's lead character’s experience of Nairobi - a balance of the grim sounds of the streets with more upbeat, carefree party music. The score incorporates mood-based, piano driven themes combined with soundscapes made by electronic samplers, analogue synthesizers and experimental traditional vocal and instrumental sounds. "Lusala" premiered in Kenya on June 6, 2019 at the Nairobi Film Festival, and on June 7, 2019 he released the original motion picture soundtrack album.

Between April 2019 to October 2019, Rushab co-produced "Live At The Elephant" - a monthly concert showcasing some of Kenya’s best live musicians.

On June 14, 2019, he released his debut EP 'Without .wavs' - an electronic-classical EP attributed to musician, Tim Bergling (Avicii). The inspiration behind the concept of the EP came from David B. Gray’s journal, Compassionate Violence?: On The Ethical Implications of Tantric Buddhist Rituals and his notion of “Tantric Visions of Fierce Compassion.” The electronic and classical pieces aim to invoke the idea that two seemingly opposite forces, can in fact, be in conversation with one another. On November 15, 2019, he released the follow up single, "Anicca (Remix)," with actors, spoken word artists and rappers Elsaphan Njora and Sens_ei.
