Bio
Nantenaina Andriamorasata belongs to a new generation of composers who expand boundaries, explore fresh formats, and bring a vibrant, accessible and imaginative energy to contemporary music. From Antananarivo, he crafts a sound world that is immediately recognizable: expressive, colorful, direct, and driven by an instinctive sense of how to turn unconventional instrumentations into powerful artistic statements.
A multiple award-winner of the Merck Foundation Song Awards, he is steadily emerging as one of Madagascar’s most dynamic musical voices on the international scene. His work circulates widely — through selections at World New Music Days, numerous Fifteen Minutes of Fame projects, collaborations with Castle of Our Skins, and festivals centered on winds, strings, hybrid ensembles, and experimental formats.
His strength lies in clarity and impact: poetic yet never opaque, open-minded yet unmistakably personal. He brings out the character of each instrument — from bass flute to double bass, from accordion to taishogoto — shaping a signature sound that performers and curators quickly identify.
Today, Nantenaina is expanding his international presence and building a network of collaborators who believe in his fresh, narrative-driven approach. His aim is to cultivate a contemporary musical language that is connected, human, and inspiring — a new energy rising from the Indian Ocean.
