The Monkey Nuts

Bio

Founded in 2011, The Monkey Nuts is a music outfit from Harare, Zimbabwe. It is made up of three members namely Impi Maphango (lead guitar and vocals), Josh Chiundiza (keys) and Tino Tagwirei (rapper). The threesome were born and raised in Harare. Their music is a mixture of hip-hop, rock and Afro-electro genres. They are signed to a U.K record label called BBE Records.

On 18 April 2015, the act released their eight-track debut album titled 'Boombap Idiophonics'. The music project was released through iTunes and CDs. The launch was followed by the release of a single titled 'Ndiani Aparadza' (June 2015). The song is a bonus track taken from their LP. Shortly afterwards, they did a collaboration with DJ Oil a French DJ from Marseille. The collaboration featured vocals and mbira from Hope Masike one of the country's leading female musicians.

They have performed with well-known musicians at a number of international concerts held in the U.K, South Africa, Germany, Botswana, Zimbabwe and the U.S. In September 2011, they participated at the Shoko International Spoken Word and hip-hop festival. The event saw them performing alongside British's Akala (a 2006 MOBO Award winner), Tumi and The Volume (hip-hop band from South Africa), Comrade Fatso and Chabvondoka (from Zimbabwe) and Hired Gun (an underground Emcee from the U.S).

In 2012, they also performed with musicians such as The Arrows (a pop duo from South Africa), Nomsa Mazwai, Mic Crenshaw (from the U.S), Natty (Atlantic Records Singer), DJ Andi Teichman (electronic DJ from German). They have also shared the stage with Oliver Mtukudzi, Zahara, Zebra and Giraffe, Graeme Watkins, Shingai Shoniwa and many more.
