Cynthia Mare

Bio

Cynthia Mare is a musician from Zimbabwe who began singing RnB but later changed to Afro-pop, gospel and jazz genres. She attended St Dominics and Hermain Gmeiner schools in Harare and Bindura respectively. She grew up with a passion for music. At five, she told her father that one day she would want to be a singer. She is a writer and singer. She was part of the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM) church choir. At 16, she moved to the UK to study nursing.

In 2007, she released her debut album ‘Happy’. This was followed with a string of singles. She rose to fame in 2010 following the release of her second album ‘Summer of Love’. The album was produced and recorded at Krunchie Production. In 2011, she lost her mother and released an album dedicated to her called ‘Songs My Mother Loved’ (2013). The album carries jazz, gospel songs and some church hymns. It has songs such as ‘Hatina Musha Panyika’, ‘Pfugama Unamate’ and ‘Zuva Rimwe’.

Upon her return to Zimbabwe, she has engaged in a number of activities. In May 2014, she became a brand ambassador for Gtel. Gtel is one of Zimbabwe's leading mobile phone manufacturers. She also featured in Starbrite Talent Show, a Zimbabwean show that is equivalent to American Idols. In April 2014 she performed at HIFA (Harare International Festival of the Arts) with Oliver Mtukudzi and Ammara Brown. She had another set with fellow artists Prince Msarurwa and Diana Samukange.
