Keith Moss

Bio

After winning the SAMRO Overseas Scholarship for composition in 2010, Keith Moss is now recognised as one of the leading South African composers of his generation. His compositional output ranges from chamber works of various large-scale orchestral works, including soloists. In 2012 he won first place in the Stefans Grové National Competition for Composition, the first recipient of this award in this category.

Keith began studying composition soon after completing his degree in piano performance under the esteemed Peter Louis van Dijk. Later he was a student of the former head of the South African College of Music in Cape Town, Peter Klatzow. During a tour of the UK, he was able to work with composers such as Jonathan Cole of the Royal College of Music, Robert Fokkens at the University of Cardiff and Adam Gorb of the Royal Northern College of Music. He has conducted numerous premieres of his own works with his performing ensemble The Paz Consort, and continues to promote the works of his contemporaries. SAMRO has commissioned major works from him and his work is published by UNISA in the Piano Jazz Syllabus.

Keith now lives in Pretoria, where he continues to write and perform. He is currently studying towards a Doctoral degree in Composition at the University of Pretoria under Alexander Johnson, while continuing his work with The Paz Consort, promoting his work and the work of his contemporaries through concerts and commissions. In 2014 he established both the Capital Chamber Orchestra and the Capital Symphony Orchestra with the intention of bringing quality contemporary music to audiences in the region by performing in unusual locations.
