Owo
Bio
Owo hails from Bamako, Mali, where the rich artistic heritage of oral
tradition music thrives.
This vibrant heritage combines the Tamani (talking drum), the Balafon, the
Kora, the calabash, and the soulful Wassoulou voice at the core of both
traditional and contemporary music across Western Africa.
(Wassoulou music is recognized by ethnomusicologists as one of the origins
of American Blues.)
The name "Owo" signifies "cowrie," an emblematic element from Africa's
history known for its profound symbolism and exceptional beauty.
Owo takes listeners on an evocative acoustic journey brimming with
emotions.
With the support of Ami Prod, they recently recorded their debut
EP at the renowned Moffou studio of Salif Keita. The EP is currently in the
final stages of editing and publication.
