Mthuthu

Bio

Ntuthuko Ndebele, widely known as Mthuthu, originates from Ulundi, a culturally vibrant community deeply rooted in traditions and the spirit of Ubuntu. It comes as no surprise that Mthuthu's music is heavily influenced by African culture, with his vocal tone reminiscent of Isicathamiya and Umbaqanga genres.

Mthuthu's musical journey can be traced back to his childhood, where he actively participated in various art activities during his time at Mahlabatini Primary School. He immersed himself in the school's music group, choir, music and dance society, and more. His passion for the arts continued to flourish at Nsikayendlu High School, where he garnered recognition as a lead actor and singer in the Music, Poetry, and Drama Academy. His exceptional talent led him to win various music and drama competitions.

Driven by his love for art and his community, Mthuthu volunteered at the Zululand Indonsa Arts and Craft Centre, advocating for the recognition of talent within Zululand and its surrounding areas. To this day, he remains dedicated to mentoring aspiring artists, offering his guidance and support to individuals seeking knowledge and assistance from the general public, Durban University of Technology, University of KwaZulu-Natal, and other institutions.

Mthuthu embarked on his music career by delving into House Music, mastering its foundations and refining his vocal capabilities as a studio recording artist since 2005. After completing his studies at Thekwini TVET College in 2007, he fully committed himself to music. Throughout his journey, Mthuthu collaborated with renowned Afro House Deejays such as Dj Fresh, Dj Euphonik, Dj Bongs, St Nick, BlaqSoul, and many others, solidifying his position as an esteemed artist.

In 2022, Mthuthu realized his long-cherished dream of releasing a sublime African Folk sound through his profoundly beautiful EP titled 'INdumba.' This musical masterpiece explores universal spirituality and the profound connection with oneself. Notably, he recently joined forces with Dr. Madala Kunene, renowned as the 'King of the Zulu Guitar,' resulting in a highly acclaimed studio and live performance collaboration.

Mthuthu's talent has garnered recognition and accolades throughout his career. He received a nomination for the Ulundi Awards in 2013 as the Best Artist Representing Ulundi, and in 2022, he was honored with the title of Best Spiritual Singer by Ziveze Poetry Sessions. His songs, such as "Thulisani Imimoya," topped the Gagasi FM Afro Pop Top 10 chart, while "Vusela" claimed the number 1 spot and "Thulisani Imimoya" secured the number 2 spot on the Ethnocloud African Charts for April 2023. Furthermore, "Vusela" ranked at number 3 and "Thulisani Imimoya" at number 8 on the Ethnocloud Global Charts for the same month.
