Oumy
Bio
The Artist, The Activist, The Voice of the Sahel
An award-winning singer-songwriter and rapper, Oumy is one of Senegal's most authentic global cultural figures. Her music blends the raw power of hip-hop with the elegance of African R&B and the energy of global pop, creating songs that transcend languages and generations.
A Multidimensional Artist-Activist
More than just an artist, OUMY is an influential ambassador who uses her art to support important causes, including climate change, local development, and gender equality.
Local Initiatives and Action
OUMY's commitment is rooted in concrete actions. She is the founder of FEM'ART and created the 48H DE BARGNY festival. This annual musical and social event aims to provide solutions and training for young people and women, and to contribute to the development of her community.
Bargny, her hometown, is a key location threatened by coastal erosion and impacted by industrial pollution (cement factory, coal-fired power plant). The festival brings the community to life every December for 48 hours, combining music and social engagement to highlight these issues.
Strategic Projects Ambassador
Her role as ambassador is reinforced by several strategic partnerships:
She is the ambassador for FERME FACTORY, a project run in partnership with ANIDA that promotes a return to the land and agriculture.
She is also the ambassador for BEHIND THE SCENE SENEGAL, a major initiative that combats gender inequality in the cultural sector.
This project is led by LAREM (Laboratory for Economic and Monetary Research) under the auspices of the Mastercard Foundation.
Global Influence: Climate Justice
OUMY is expanding her influence globally: she has collaborated with the World Bank on climate change issues and has been a leading voice in the United Nations My Sahel project (OCHA). Recognized for her work, she performed at COP 28 in Dubai as an artistic ambassador for resilience and climate justice.
OUMY is also a passionate advocate for women's rights and has been involved in numerous initiatives to support women in her community. She has worked with organizations such as the United Nations Women's Fund (UNIFEM) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to promote women's empowerment and economic independence.
Artistic Career and Recognition
Born on October 7 in Rufisque, a former colonial town in the Dakar region, OUMY is of Lebou heritage and was deeply influenced by the cultural richness of Bargny, where she grew up.
OUMY launched her musical career in high school in 2010. She turned professional in 2012 when she joined DD Records, the label she worked with for over a decade.
A major turning point came in 2024 when she signed with the English label CONSCIOUS MUSIC. Her first EP under this new label is expected in February 2026, the result of a partnership with VERO and WARNER MUSIC AFRICA.
