Wacha Mkhukhu Wachumlilo
Bio
Wacha Mkhukhu Wachumlilo, formed in 2005, by the late Charles Nkosana Kodi and Lucas ‘Mojeremane’ Xale, is proving to have an undying legacy. This after it managed to survive the passing of Mojeremane in 2008, and surviving the passing of Nkosana in 2014.
Currently, the group has just finished a new soul-healing album with two young lead vocalists, 14-year-old Kago Molefe and 25-year-old Paul Kgokane. They are replacing Ndumiso Mabena who is going solo after effectively carrying the group since Nkosana’s passing.
Like they were born for this, Kago and Paul, under the tutelage of veteran producers Sipho King K Kekana and Thato Mampe, stepped up and carried the baton like legends possessed by the holy spirit recording the upcoming album titled, “Ba Ya Mo Nyatsa” - in an album that goes back in time in compositions mixed with modern sound.
Wacha Mkhukhu Wachumlilo, by far the biggest mokhukhu group in Sione Gospel, was formed in 2005 by the late Charles Nkosana Kodi and Lucas ‘Mojeremane’ Xale.
The two mokhukhu music giants had previously worked together on The Rock project, which also featured the late Oleseng.
When the group was formed, the idea was to record the ZCC Mkhukhu dance at its best and yet, rawest.
The group has gone on to outlive its founders and has to date released 13 albums.
Nkosana and Mojeremane recorded the first the albums of group from 2005 to 2007. Early in 2008, death struck and on a Monday morning, news broke that Mojeremane had been found dead. To date, circumstances that led to his death remain sketchy.
Nkosana then went solo with Wacha Mkhukhu as the sole lead vocalist. He released ‘Maria Mma Jeso A Tsholla Dikeledi’, ‘Ditaba Tse Ka Jeso Ke Matlhomola Pelo featuring the hit Inbombolo’, ‘Relebalele Melato’, ‘O Tlalla O Tlare Yo’, ‘Re Fumane Kgotso Ko Sione’ as well as Lentsoe La Johanna.
As if he knew his time in this world was fast approaching its end, Nkosana started grooming young and talented Ndumiso Mabena when he released O tla Lla O tlare Yoo in 2012 and Refumane Kgotso ko Sione.
The group’s existence was hugely affected when on 22 June 2014, Nkosana also passed away following a short illness.
However, owing to the support from the general public, the group gathered strength and recorded a tribute album, which was released on 25 August 2014, titled, Ke Wena Fela Moetapele Wa Semoya.
It went on to record two more albums before it decided to record its first live project at the State Theatre in Pretoria.
At the moment, the group is about to release its 14th album featuring Paul K as a guest artist.
