Call for applications: MASA 2024
The organisers of the Market for African Performing Arts (MASA) are inviting artists to submit applications to perform at the 13th edition of the trade show in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, in 2024.
The application deadline is 30 August 2023.
Artists in the following disciplines should apply: music, dance, storytelling, stand-up comedy and theatre.
Requirements
- A show less than three years old.
- The group’s workforce, including the management team and the manager, must not exceed:
- Eight people for music.
- Three people for humour.
- Three people for slam.
- Three people for storytelling.
- Eight people for contemporary dance (for solo: three people).
- Ten people for circus and puppetry.
- Ten people for theatre.
- Fifteen people for heritage dance.
- Decorations and accessories must not be heavy or bulky and must be transportable on regular flights.
- The application file for the official MASA 2022 selection will include:
- A letter of candidacy addressed to the General Directorate of MASA.
- Three stage photos of the group in high definition (HD).
- A video recording of the show (teasers and video clips are not accepted).
- A list of creations and broadcasts from the past three years or a press book.
- A distribution sheet indicating:
- An email address and telephone number of the group referent.
- The departure city of the group (Note: only one departure and return city for the entire group without exception).
- The nominative list of the people making up the group with the mention of the date of birth and the function in the group.
- The names and surnames of the manager for music, the administrator for other disciplines.
- The names and surnames of the author, director or choreographer.
- A presentation of the show specifying:
- The date of creation.
- The theme and approach.
- The summary of the story staged for storytelling, humour, dance and theatre.
- The lyrics of the songs for music and slam.
- A technical sheet indicating:
- The desired scene dimensions.
- The lighting and sound needs of the show and the necessary technical staff.
- The duration of the assembly and disassembly of the show.
- The weight and volume of the decorations and accessories.
Note: MASA reserves the right to propose other technical provisions. The documents submitted remain the property of MASA, which undertakes not to use them for commercial purposes.
Application files can be:
- Submitted on the MASA website via the application form available online.
- Sent by mail to the Directorate General of MASA, Plateau, Rue Toussaint Louverture 09 BP 2877 Abidjan 09 - Côte d'Ivoire, no later than 30 August 2023, the postmark being authentic.
The list of groups selected for the official selection will be published no later than 5 October 2023.
