Zwide Ndwandwe
Bio
Zwide Ndwandwe is a bassist and session musician from Cape Town, South Africa. He is a member of the seven piece afro jazz band Kujenga. The name Kujenga symbolises the band’s belief in their calling as
musicians; to build and create meaningful experiences with every single listener, through their art. Kujenga’s music is a combination of different genres which come from the African diaspora, with Black improvisational
music being the central point of the band’s sound. The band released their debut album 'Nationality' in 2019 and has performed at multiple stages around Cape Town including Jazzathon Festival.
Zwide comes from a family of musicians. His uncle from his mother's side is the late legendary South African trombonist and educator Brian Thusi. His mother, Mabongi Thusi, is a vocalist and lead singer of the family band Mabongi Thusi & The OAKS, featuring Zwide on bass, his twin brother Owethu Ndwandwe on keys, and younger brother Khanya Ndwandwe on electric guitar.
Zwide has performed with various musicians, including maskandi music veteran Mfiliseni Magubane, Emo and Loukman Adams, Demi Lee Moore and many more.
