VVIP

Bio

VVIP is a Ghanaian group of performing artists. Initially known as VIP, it was made up of Promzy (Emmanuel Promzy Ababio), Prodigal (Joseph Nana Ofori), and Zeal (Abdul Hamid Ibrahim). In 1997, VIP (then made of four members) performed at a street carnival and was noticed by a radio personality and TV presenter. They got a record deal and released their first album 'Bibi Baa O' the following year. It was highly successful.

A follow-up album 'Ye De Aba' was even more successful the next year. A member dropped out of the group, leaving the aforementioned trio. The album 'Lumbe Lumbe Lumbe', followed his exit. In 2003, the group scored its major international success with 'Ahomka Womu', a single from an album with the same name. The album gave the group five Ghana Music Awards.

Promzy left the group in 2013, and was replaced by the acclaimed godfather of hiplife, Reggie Rockstone in 2014. The name morphed into VVIP at this point. The hits 'Skolom' and 'Selfie' have been recorded and released by the new line-up, which remains on of the most successful bands in Ghana. In 2016, VVIP won Best Group at the VGMAS.
