Naomi Achu

Bio

Naomi Achu (sometimes called the 'Queen of Bamenda') is a rapper and singer from Bamenda in Cameroon. Born to a diplomat father and teacher mother, Ms Achu's career as a performing artist began early. She is said to have written her first song at 9, and sang as a student in Saker Baptist College in Limbe, Cameroon.

Ms Achu provided backup vocals for a number of artists and became the automated voice used by telecom company MTN Cameroon. In 2009, she recorded the EP 'No Boundaries'. A 12-track album followed two years later.

She is influenced by a variety of musicians: Angelique Kidjo, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, Mary Mary, Makoma, Mary J. Blige, Kirk Franklin, Lauryn Hill, and Erykah Badu.
