Grandiz Kroo

Founded on 25 December 2005, Grandiz Kroo is a Gambian music outfit comprising of three artists. The members are Retsam, Lawless and Napz. The group started off with four people but the Lil’ Yacs, one of the founding members passed on. Yacs had left the group to pursue his studies in Dakar, Senegal where he juggled with another crew. Grandiz Kroo released its first single ‘Like They Told Us’, followed by ‘Gotta Go’. They launched another single called ‘You Don’t Know Us’ featuring their school mate Young Blood.

In 2006, they founded a recording studio called Revenge Records. A schoolmate called Raz C joined them at a later stage. Raz C later left for the U.K. to pursue studies. In 2007, they invited another former classmate Adu B, popularly known as Booba Z, to join the group. Booba Z became the crew’s French rapper coupled with break dancing and beat boxing skills.

The group released their mixtape and Adu B left owing to personal reasons. His departure left a huge void for the group. In 2010, they released a second mixtape entitled ‘We Are So Artistik’. With three members left, the outfit released a third mixtape project entitled ‘Nil Volentibus Ardum’. The project is fully dedicated to the late Lil’ Yacs.

In 2012, Gament Music-Video Awards awarded them the Outstanding Video category from a single called ‘Loving You’. In 2013 they released ‘The X-tape’ album which became their fifth significant project comprising of 15 tracks. In 2014, they released a single titled ‘Tukki Teckii’. The song has a music-video. “Tukki Teckii” literally means “Travel To Succeed”

Some of their popular songs are ‘Livin’ Ma Dream’, ‘Lu Nuy Tegg’, ‘Bii Life’, ‘Can’t Get Me Down’, ‘Lovin’ You’, ‘Tukki Tekki’, ‘Si Lunn Fogg’, ‘Mumu Nation’, ‘They Don’t know Us’, ‘Born To Be Rich’, ‘Victory’, ‘A Better Day’ and ‘Things We Do for the Love of Hip-Hop’.
