Abou and Fafa Mbye
Bio
Abou and Fafa Mbye is a mbalah music duo from The Gambia. They are siblings who inherited music from their griot family. Their mother Oley Chune was a singer and their father, Barrow Mbye was a drummer. They started music at a young age whilst living in a compound where singing and drumming was a daily norm. They also performed at music events held at school.
In 2009 they released their debut single titled ‘Babill Mansa’. In 2010 they embarked on a national tour in The Gambia to promote their music. In 2012 and 2013, they toured the U.S, U.K., Sweden and Senegal. They paired Senegalese artists such as Mbye Gaye Faye and Wally Ballago Secka who feature in some of their songs.
In 2015, they won the Best Mbalax Artists category at the Purely Gambian Entertainment Awards. Some of their popular songs are ‘U Are My Life’, ‘Fans Yi’, ‘Mbuagel’ and ‘Babill Mansa’.
