The track is described as a love song centred on themes of nostalgia and emotional attachment, incorporating Shona lyrics alongside contemporary instrumentation. It features a guitar solo by Lukas Knuap and a guest verse from Mann Friday, whose contribution adds a contrasting vocal and stylistic element.
Speaking about the collaboration, Mann Friday member Rob Burrell said: “It was amazing working with Sylent Nqo on this song. He’s such an incredible artist. We have more music coming out in 2026.”
Sylent Nqo also commented on the partnership, stating: “Working with Mann Friday was an absolute pleasure. They elevated the song. 2026 we will continue to push boundaries and put Zim on the map.”
The release follows a series of recent singles by the artist, including ‘Huya’, which has gained attention on digital platforms. His work is characterised by a blend of genres, often combining elements of rock, folk and African musical traditions.
Mann Friday, active since 1998, have developed a cross-continental presence with performances and recordings spanning cities such as London and Cape Town. Their collaboration with Sylent Nqo marks a continuation of their engagement with artists from different musical backgrounds.
A music video accompanying ‘Sewe’ was directed by Taku Dzinoreva and Lennox Makurumidze. The visuals are intended to reflect the tone and themes of the song.
The single has been released through Bridgenorth Music, a label focused on promoting Southern African artists to wider audiences.
Sylent Nqo, also known as “The Guitar Sangoma”, has previously worked with artists including UB40, Oliver Mtukudzi and Hugh Masekela. His accolades include winning the Senior Solo Instrumental category at the World Championships of Performing Arts in 2016 and Best Alternative Musician at the Zimbabwe Music Awards in 2019.
