The event, which pays homage to the late legendary musician and national hero Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, coincides with the week of his birthday, 22 September 1952, and celebrates his enduring cultural legacy.
Running under the theme Todii, Senzeni, What Shall We Do? inspired by one of Tuku’s most iconic songs, the 2025 edition will offer a multidisciplinary celebration of arts and culture, with a focus on social consciousness, unity, and creative empowerment.
The festival will open with workshops for emerging creatives, followed by a children’s programme facilitated by Precious Children’s Arts Organisation (PICA). The broader OMIFA programme will also feature performances and exhibitions across music, fashion, film, and visual arts by leading local and international artists.
One of the key highlights will be the children’s showcase, led by Chipo Basopo and involving over 20 schools from Norton and neighbouring communities. The initiative will include music, drama and visual art inspired by Mtukudzi’s life and music, highlighting youth creativity while paying tribute to one of Zimbabwe’s most influential cultural icons.
“OMIFA was established as more than just a music festival,” OMIFA director told Music In Africa. “It is a living, evolving tribute to the life, work, and values of the late Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi, affectionately known as ‘Tuku’. “Tuku’s music transcended entertainment, it became a voice for social justice, community building, and African identity. His songs told stories that inspired people to reflect, to unite, and to act with compassion and integrity.”
The inaugural 2024 edition featured an impressive line-up of performers, including Jah Prayzah, Killer T, Andy Muridzo, Mokoomba, Feli Nandi, Selmor Mtukudzi, Tamy Moyo, Hope Masike, Gemma Griffiths, Mary Anibal, and the Black Spirits featuring Mbeu and Donald Kanyuchi, among others.
Details on the 2025 headliners, full artist roster, and official event programme will be announced in due course.
Tuku Music (Pvt) Ltd, the organisers behind OMIFA, is a registered music production and promotion company that manages the legacy portfolio of the late Oliver Mtukudzi and oversees operations at the Pakare Paye Arts Centre.
Founded in 2004 by Mtukudzi himself, Pakare Paye is a creative hub, performance venue, and community space for artists across Zimbabwe. It continues to serve as a beacon of inspiration and a living monument to Tuku’s vision of uplifting and mentoring emerging talent.
