Performed in English, German, and Ga – the language of the Ga people from Ghana’s capital, Accra – ‘Toxic Love’ delivers a cinematic musical experience that explores the pain, passion, and healing power of love. The track layers melodious pop textures with operatic vocals and traditional African instrumentation, unfolding a narrative steeped in vulnerability and emotional crescendo.
The Souly Bird, born and raised in Berlin, Germany, draws deeply from her experiences across the African continent, having spent formative years in Angola and Benin before settling in Ghana. Her cross-continental journey informs her unique sonic palette, blending soul and classical influences with contemporary African pop. Since her breakout 2023 album The Showtime, she has collaborated with a range of Ghanaian artists including Okyeame Kwame, Josh Blakk, and Fonye, earning a reputation for fusing lyrical German interpretations with Afrobeats and West African soul.
Joining her on ‘Toxic Love’ is Abiana, known formally as Elda Naa Abiana Dickson – whose powerful vocals and emotive storytelling have made her one of Ghana’s most compelling contemporary artists. Her previous collaboration with The Souly Bird on the acclaimed single ‘Mama’ cemented her reputation as a genre-blending force. With a voice that combines power and elegance, Abiana infuses ‘Toxic Love’ with Ghana’s rich musical heritage and heartfelt soul.
Together, the duo aim to transcend borders through their shared artistry. “We have created more than just a song, it’s a story, a feeling, and a shared journey through love’s most complex layers,” a joint statement from both artists reads.
