Open call: Trainer for Gender@Work music business module
The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF), in partnership with Scènes Australes, seeks an experienced trainer for a new module in music business management. The module is part of Gender@Work – a pan-African programme aimed at developing critical skills among female professionals in the African music sector.
With a strong focus on addressing gender disparity in the African music industry, Gender@Work offers theoretical and practical courses, delivered both online and offline by top trainers and music industry experts from Africa, the Indian Ocean and Europe.
The Music Business Management module will be delivered online in English in October 2023. Among other roles, the trainer will contribute to the finalisation of the module structure, carefully curating a plan that is feasible and efficient in achieving the programme’s objectives.
Module overview
The Music Business Management module will allow learners to dive deep into the fundamental aspects of the music industry, and explore the key components of the music business value chain, management principles, branding and marketing strategies, and critical topics like intellectual property.
The training will address aspiring artists, managers, technicians or entrepreneurs in the music industry, and equip them with the knowledge and skills to navigate the dynamic music business space successfully.
As part of this online module, the trainees will also have the opportunity to connect with fellow participants from diverse backgrounds, fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
The module will precede an immersive event production training session with all the participants at the ACCES music conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 5 to 11 November 2023.
Key responsibilities
- In consultation with the MIAF, develop a five-day training course in music business management, including strong theoretical and practical components. The training course must be realistic and offer the best possible upskilling opportunity to the trainees. A maximum of 15 trainees from different African countries will participate.
- Prepare all requirements for the training to run smoothly, including content, visual aids and other teaching material.
- Attend preparatory meetings with the MIAF and partners.
- Implement and conduct the training in English in October 2023.
- Facilitate other aspects as needed.
Skills and requirements
- Proof of formal training in music business management or a related field.
- Solid track record in music business management (minimum 15 years’ experience).
- Experience as a trainer or facilitator.
- Excellent communication skills (English, French being an advantage)
- The trainer must be willing and able to collaborate with other guest trainers or facilitators.

Scènes Australes participates in the organisation of the two biggest festivals on the Reunion Island: Sakifo Musik Festival and Les Francofolies de La Réunion. It also finances 100% of the organisation of the Indian Ocean Music Market (IOMMA).
