Nigerian artists generated over $43.8m on Spotify in 2025, report shows
Nigerian artists generated more than ₦60 billion (about $43.8m) in revenue from the streaming platform Spotify in 2025, according to new data released in the company’s annual Loud & Clear report.
Spotify director for Sub-Saharan Africa Jocelyne Muhutu‑Remy.
The report, which aims to provide insight into the economics of music streaming, indicates that revenue from Nigerian artists on the platform has grown by more than 140% over the past two years. The figures reflect increasing global demand for Nigerian music and expanding economic opportunities for artists in the country.
According to the data, Nigerian artists generated 30.3 billion streams and 1.6 billion listening hours on the platform during 2025. Their music was also discovered by first-time listeners more than 1.3 billion times, representing a 26% increase compared with 2024.
Domestically, Nigerian music continued to dominate listening habits on the country’s version of Spotify. In 2025, local artists accounted for over 80% of tracks on the Spotify Nigeria Daily Top 50 chart, while local consumption of Nigerian music grew by 170% year-on-year on the platform.
Jocelyne Muhutu‑Remy said the data reflects both international growth and stronger domestic engagement with Nigerian music.
“Nigeria’s music story continues to be one of creativity, innovation and global cultural influence,” she said. “What we’re seeing is a market where talent is not only reaching new audiences around the world, but also building deeper connections at home. For us, Loud & Clear is an opportunity to spotlight the evolving pathways artists are taking to build sustainable careers, and to show the many ways Nigerian creators are shaping the future of music.”
The report also highlights growth among specific artist groups. Streams of Nigerian female artists within the country increased 55% year-on-year, while streams of Nigerian independent artists rose 75% over the same period. Independent artists and labels accounted for about 58% of royalties generated by Nigerian artists on Spotify in 2025.
Spotify’s editorial playlists also played a role in artist exposure. Nearly 2 000 Nigerian artists were added to the platform’s editorial playlists during the year. Nigerian artists also appeared in nearly 320 million user-generated playlists globally and more than 12 million playlists created by listeners in Nigeria.
The data suggests a broadening of musical tastes among listeners in the country. Over the past five years, genres experiencing the fastest growth on Spotify in Nigeria include pop urbaine, alternative pop, anime music, emo and drill, indicating a more diverse listening landscape.
Spotify said the Loud & Clear report aims to provide transparency about streaming revenues and offer insight into how artists build audiences and generate income through digital platforms.
