The track, launched this week, explores themes of sensuality, transparency in relationships, and celebrates the natural beauty of curvaceous African women.
Bunda is a slang term of Portuguese origin and serves as both the track’s title and central motif. Del B says the song is an homage to the natural form of African women.
“I wanted to creatively express my love for women with curves,” he said. “I’m an African man who appreciates and prefers the natural born body of a Black African woman. When I say that, I’m talking about no strings attached and open relationships. I think the more honest you are with what you want, the less complications there will be.”
Del B, born Ayodele Joseph Basil, is known for shaping the sound of modern Afrobeats through collaborations with heavyweights like Wizkid, Davido, and Mr Eazi. With Bunda, he takes centre stage, merging pulsating Afrobeat rhythms with sultry vocals and candid lyricism.
The track also marks a breakout moment for Merchah, an emerging talent whose blend of Afrobeat, R&B and dancehall is gaining traction across Africa’s urban music scene. Known for her bold lyrics and vocal charisma, Merchah’s performance on ‘Bunda’ showcases her versatility and star potential.
Del B’s production credentials are some of the most respected in the Nigerian music industry. From crafting D’banj’s ‘Why Me’ to Kcee’s award-winning hit ‘Limpopo’, he has long been a creative force behind the global Afrobeats wave.
The release of ‘Bunda’ further cements his legacy not only as a producer but as an artist unafraid to challenge norms and open conversations around identity, beauty, and relationship dynamics in African music.
