Kenyan DJ duo Dylan-S and Foozak win Rave the Planet remix competition
Nairobi-based Afro-house producers Dylan-S and Foozak have won the Rave the Plant remix competition, with their track slated for release on 26 August via Rave the Planet.
The competition was made possible through a partnership with Music In Africa and Paradise Worldwide, and sought to uncover electronic producers based on the African continent to showcase their talent to the European market.
As part of the main prize, Dylan-S and Foozak’s remix of the original ‘Rave the Planet’ anthem by A.S.Y.S and Kai Tracid was played on 9 July at Berlin’s Rave the Planet Parade, a reboot of the world-famous Love Parade that was last held in the German capital in 2006.
Rave the Planet 2022 saw an estimated 300 000 people take to the streets of Berlin to celebrate electronic culture, which the Rave the Planet NPO aims to add to UNESCO’s intangible heritage list.
Dylan-S and Foozak’s remix has now been professionally mixed and mastered by Blackhead Studios Berlin ahead of its 26 August release.
“Dylan-S and Foozak created a wonderfully emotional remix,” German DJ and Rave the Planet board member Dr Motte said. “The artists interpreted the vibe of the anthem in their own remarkable way and brought it exceptionally on-point.
“We are all very happy about this rhythmically and emotionally sophisticated version of ‘Rave the Planet’. Thank you very much to everybody who participated in this remix competition and especially to Music In Africa and Paradise Worldwide for the great cooperation.”
Dylan-S and Foozak are behind Ewaso Records, a Nairobi-based label that promotes the “deeper, darker side of African electronic music.” Their track will be released alongside remixes by Patrik Berg and Marie Vaunt.
