The event, organised by Doek on Fleek Lifestyle Events, is part of a broader initiative known as She’s Power, a platform aimed at highlighting women’s empowerment and celebrating women’s achievements. Attendance at the festival will be limited to women and members of the LGBTQI+ community.
In addition to live music performances, the programme will include fashion showcases, workshops and other activities intended to promote networking and discussions around unity and diversity.
The Durban edition follows the first She’s Power Fest of the year, which was held on 28 February in Kempton Park near Johannesburg. Reflecting on the earlier event, organisers said on social media: “We honoured the ones who refuse to be confined. We uplifted those who know their strength and walk boldly in it.”
The organisers also emphasised the festival’s intention to create a space where women can express themselves and celebrate their individuality. “And I am letting the little girl in me play it out loud,” they said, describing the event as an opportunity for women to celebrate themselves and one another.
